Our History

Pantyffynnon Rugby Football Club are into their 104^th year and although there have been many ups over this period there have been many downs. Thankfully with a lot of effort from volunteers and players the last 10yrs have been very good for the club.

-          Season 2006-2007  Llanelli & District section B Champions  and undefeated winning 14/14 league games

-          Season 2007-2008  Morgan Millenium Cup Winners,  Nick James representing Welsh Districts

-          Season 2008-         Promoted from District League into the newly formed Swales Division 6 West

-          Season 2009-2010   Junior section set up, club running under 7’s,8’s,11’s

-          Season 2012-2013  2^nd xv Formed and entered into Llanelli & District League to be known as Panty Penguins

-          Season 2013          Promotion to Swalec 5 West after a 30-27 play off final against New Panteg RFC

These are Just some of the achivements this small village club have achived during the last very successful decade.Lets hope the club can keep progressing and adding to the success over the coming decades.

Going back to the start and little record of when and where the decision to form a rugby football team was decided and by who also remains a mystery, but it is thought that the team was set up at the Dinefwr Arms public house over a few beers. The team started out in the early 20^th century and were known as the Dinefwr Stars and a fixture list of season 1911-12 sees the team play league games against Llandybie, Tycroes and even Tir-y-dail Rfc to name a few. The team changed to be known as Pantyffynnon RFC In the shortly after the first world war.

The 1960’s was also a good period for Rugby in Pantyffynnon, topped off by the very successful youth side. One of these players went on to achive the ultimate accolade of a Welsh born rugby player. In 1975 Trevor Evans gained his first Welsh Cap and in 1977 was to represent the British Lions on the much talked about New Zealand Tour of that year. He is currently the only player to have doned any of the red jersey as of yet and although Trevor never played for the senior side the club are very proud of it’s and Trevor’s achivements.

The 80’s saw a low point of the club when in November 1986 the clubhouse which was known locally as ‘Fantasy island’ fell into disrepair and were forced to close it’s door. A fire broke out on the 3^rd May 1987 to totally destroy the building. The club then moved it’s HQ back to the Dinefwr Arms.

Toward the latter stages of the century two back to back promotions were achived in the 90’s aswell as plans to erect floodlights. This dream was realized in 2002 when full match light were erected thanks to a grant from communities first and thankless form filling from club Sec at the time Anthony Mainwaring.

Hopefully the good times are back at Pantyffynnon Rugby Club and in a newly set up rugby committee the club will flourish and will continue to improve and develop grass roots rugby in the local area.
